Introducing the Author

Welcome to On Wax, a blog about records. This is the first official post for the blog so I want to introduce why I am doing this and why collecting records is important to me.

I began collecting records in 2015 out of the love for music. My collection started with one of those awful Crosley portable “turntables” that you get at Urban Outfitters. I didn’t know back then that the Crosley was bad for my records and frankly, I probably wouldn’t have cared back then. I was just excited that I could start collecting the music that I love so dearly. If I remember correctly my first two records were Black Sabbath’s Paranoid and Mac Miller’s GOOD:AM on UO exclusive white vinyl (this pressing is now super rare).

As my collection began to grow, I began to take it much more seriously. I started researching new ways to improve my equipment to allow for better audio reproduction and whala, I was hooked even more so. Throughout the years I have used a lot of different equipment, including the Audio Technica LP-60 (which is a great starter turntable) and a Pioneer amplifier from the ‘70s that was gifted to me. My current setup is the best I’ve had with the Technics SL-1200 MK2, a Kenwood KR-V5560 stereo receiver and a set of Boston Acoustics A-400 speakers that are dated in the mid 1970s.

My collection spans many genres, as I am a fan of mostly anything. I have my records housed in my IKEA KALLAX shelves with space already running low. My collection is still fairly small at just about 400 records and growing.

This still doesn’t answer why I am doing this blog. I am writing for On Wax because I want to share my experience with record collecting, music history and music in general with you all. I want to generate discussion via my Instagram (www.instagram.com/spinstonchurchill) where I post what’s spinning every other day. I also want to generate discussion on the blog in the forum so the back and forth is a little more guided.

This blog is really a place for me to show what I have in the “vault” and to discuss music opinions with people who share the same interest. I can’t wait to build the collection up together.
