Record Store Day: April 18, 2020
The RSD 2020 list is finally here and let me tell you... it is stacked. For those of you that don't know Record Store Day is a day that celebrates independent record stores. This day consists of tons of exclusive releases and a heightened sense of community. It is really a day that is meant to shine a spotlight on those that keep the tradition of spinning wax alive.
This year is my third RSD and the list is better than it has been since I first went in 2018. The first year that I went I ended up with a few really solid pickups including two Lil Uzi Vert mixtapes on colored vinyl and a Billie Eilish 7" cover of "Hotline Bling" on pink vinyl ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jWgbnXBEPQ ).
RSD 2019 treated me really well as I picked up the Grateful Dead x Dogfish Head release, The Free Nationals' "Beauty & Essex 12" single, and Sleep's "Leagues Beneath" 12" single with etching. I also picked up some great used records and a couple RSD exclusives for my good friend Grantpa who lives in Chicago. He had to work all day so he couldn't grab the exclusives that he wanted. This felt like an extension of what the day is all about. Extending a hand to another collector so that they can keep expanding their collection as well. That's really what the day is about, it's about the people around the community who make it so great.
The spring 2020 list had me overwhelmed from the second that it was released. The list includes exclusives from Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Miles Davis, and more. I am really excited about a ton of releases and that's why I have already narrowed my list down to the necessities of what I want!
Here's my list:
1. Grateful Dead - Buffalo 5/9/77 5LP Boxset
2. Tyler, The Creator - Cherry Bomb
3. The Weeknd - My Dear Melancholy
4. The Allman Brothers Band - Fillmore West 1/31/71
5. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Pinata: The 1974 Version
I of course have backup plans in case any of these are sold out. My backup list includes Canned Heat & John Lee Hooker - Hooker 'N Heat and Rory Gallagher - Cleveland Calling Up as well as a re-release of The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed.
Instead of me rambling on about the list I am just going to include the link so that you can read through it for yourself https://recordstoreday.com/PromotionalEvent/572 the link includes a downloadable PDF version as well! Let me know what you are planning to pick up this Record Store Day on April 18, 2020.
